When arriving late, the first question is not how quickly you can reach the beach, but whether you can reliably get into your accommodation. Settle access before leaving home. A reference to flexible arrival is not a concrete agreement covering the time you expect to arrive.

Walk through the complete access process

Confirm the full address, correct building entrance and key-collection procedure. For a key safe, you need its exact location and current instructions. Check whether a gate or outer building door also needs to be opened. In a holiday complex, reception may be somewhere other than the building you have booked.

Save the information so it remains available without mobile data. Keep access codes private and share them only with authorised travelling companions. If any instruction is unclear, ask during the day. A missing detail is often harder to resolve shortly before midnight.

A contact for actual problems

Ask which number can be reached in the evening if you have an access problem. Do not assume there is a reception desk staffed around the clock. Establish how unexpected delays should be reported and whether a latest arrival time applies.

When travelling by train or bus, check the final connection all the way to the accommodation. If you need a taxi, enquire in advance about booking and a clear meeting point. A short distance on a map says little about whether an unfamiliar route will be comfortable to walk with luggage in the dark.

Keep the first evening simple

Bring something straightforward to eat and drink, or confirm the opening hours of an option you can reach that particular evening. A kitchen is of limited help if using it requires a visit to a supermarket that has already closed. Keep nightwear, personal medication and a charger accessible so that full unpacking can wait.

Observe house rules and quiet hours when you arrive. Familiarise yourself with the building first and save the initial beach walk for the following day, when the route and conditions are easier to assess. Before sleeping, check only the essentials for the morning: breakfast, keys and the agreed parking arrangement.
