Leaving a holiday apartment becomes easier when the few time-sensitive tasks are settled the evening before. These include check-out, key return and the first transport connection or planned departure. A final beach walk is enjoyable only when it fits between those tasks rather than competing with them.
Review the agreed departure tasks the evening before
Read the property's return instructions. What must be done depends on the agreement. Paying for final cleaning does not automatically mean every condition of departure is accepted; equally, do not assume extensive cleaning work that was never agreed. Ask about unclear points in time.
Pack everything that will not be needed in the morning. Keep a small group of essentials accessible: clothes, toiletries, charger, breakfast and important documents. Give damp beach belongings a separate place. This avoids reopening the entire suitcase immediately before leaving.
Keep breakfast and leftover food simple
Plan a final meal that creates little washing-up. Check the refrigerator and decide what can travel with you. Leave supplies only by agreement; neither the next guests nor the host necessarily wants to take them over.
Use the provided waste-sorting arrangements and keep shared routes clear while moving bags to the vehicle. In a larger group, assign tasks clearly: one person checks rooms while another organises luggage and keys. This avoids repeating one job several times while forgetting another.
Follow a fixed final check
Look inside cupboards, around sockets, in the bathroom and refrigerator. Check for personal belongings on the balcony or terrace. Follow departure instructions for windows, heating and other equipment. Return keys through the agreed process rather than leaving them in an improvised location.
For bus or rail travel, check the connection again and begin the journey to the stop with a margin. When driving, outline rest breaks beforehand. A brief final visit to the water remains possible once luggage and departure are fully arranged. The last holiday memory does not need to be a race against a deadline you set unnecessarily tightly.
